Project 1907

Project 1907 was named after the Asian anti-immigration rallies in Vancouver's Chinatown in 1907. With the discovery of opium in Vancouver's Chinatown, Chinese Canadians were portrayed as a threat to all Asians. To this day, there is discriminatory sentiment towards Asians in Canada, with the most recent example being the xenophobia Asians experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Project 1907 is dedicated to raising the voices of Asians that are underappreciated and underrepresented in social, political, and cultural ways. This is accomplished through events such as the # IWillEatWithYou, which aims to assist Chinatown businesses affected by discrimination as a result of COVID-19.The funds from this event went to the staff of the businesses and the business itself, as well as low-income members of the Asian community. The project also supplies a reporting centre and resources for those who have experienced xenophobia and discrimination to improve the communities they live in.
