Looking Back
BLACK LIVES MATTER
In September of 2021, CPSS Interact spotlighted the Black Lives Matter movement. Our student body was educated about the prominent social issues black people face in today’s society and how we can create meaningful change. A BLM panel was hosted, where over 100 students participated. Three passionate and extremely knowledgeable guest speakers informed CPSS students about this movement and shed more light onto this topic.
12 HOUR FAMINE
During the month of October, CPSS Interact shedded light on the prevalence of Hunger and Famine. Our primary initiative was a Food Drive, and we successfully collected over 450+ items while adhering to the strict COVID-19 precautions. All proceeds were donated to the Knights Table, a local food bank in Brampton. The second initiative was the 12-hour Famine, an event where participants were encouraged to fast for a span of 12 hours to raise awareness regarding hunger. This event successfully garnered the interest of over 40 interactors.

GLOBAL HEALTH
November, 2020 was a bustling month for CPSS Interact, with global health being the spotlighted topic. To highlight this issue for CPSS students, Interact hosted the Vow of Silence and an escape room. The Vow of Silence provided students with perspective and allowed them to put themselves in the shoes of people who do not have the freedom to voice their opinions. The escape room hosted allowed students to bond with their peers while completing puzzles to learn more about global health. CPSS Interact also successfully reached many students through Instagram and provided vital information about current global health crises and issues in the community.
HOMELESSNESS
During the month of December, CPSS Interact highlighted the prevalence of homelessness. To raise awareness of the issue, a game night, presented in the form of an engaging Jeopardy tournament was hosted! It successfully garnered the attention, and participation of over 40+ active interactors in our community. CPSS Interact also partnered with Regeneration Brampton’s, “Coldest Night Of The Year” fundraiser, and fundraised over $350+ in hopes to purchase winter apparel for the vulnerable. This was truly the best way to end the year 2020 despite the unprecedented circumstances.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING
CPSS Interact took the month of January to educate others on not only human trafficking, but also how to effectively use their own social media accounts to make a positive difference. CPSS Interact provided sites to donate to and petitions to sign to the rest of the student body, as well as hosted “Conscious Consumerism,” an event dedicated to informing the public that consumerism, when participated in blindly, can inadvertently aid human trafficking, followed by guiding them in making more conscious, critically thought decisions. CPSS Interact highlighted to the student population the significance of critical thought in our consumerism-minded society.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
In February, CPSS Interact celebrated the accomplishment of Black History! We aimed to raise awareness and educate the student body about both prominent and unknown Canadian Black figures who shaped history. This was accomplished by screening the movie “Everybody’s Children” by Monkia Delmos with a simultaneous discussion!
WOMEN'S HISTROY MONTH
In March, CPSS Interact focused on Women’s History Month. We were able to impact students through informational posts on Instagram regarding crucial women of the past. CPSS Interact also hosted one of their largest virtual conferences; Transcendence, which was a two-day virtual conference that featured accomplished speakers, raffles and engaging workshops for students.
NEURODIVERSITY
CPSS Interact used the month of April not only to amplify how common neurodiversity is, but also to help destigmatize conversations around it. CPSS Interact invited guest speaker: Wanda Deschamps to speak in the event “Let’s Talk Acceptance” wherein she spoke on the barriers that those who are neurodiverse face and how to be accommodating and respectful.

INVISIBLE ILLNESS
The month of May had CPSS Interact focusing education on invisible illnesses - including mental health and how to take care of yourself as you face challenges. CPSS Interact hosted “Stress-Less,” an event dedicated to de-stressing students at Central Peel just as summatives and AP exams were approaching - a very well-timed initiative. Activities available included Yoga, Meditation, Art Therapy, a Scavenger Hunt and Just Dance.

INDIGENOUS WATER CRISIS
For the last month of the school year, CPSS Interact shed light on the lack of access to clean water that the Indigenous Peoples in Canada face: the Indigenous Water Crisis. Hosting the “Run for Water” event using Strava, CPSS Interact had students track their distances walking/running/biking to raise money for Water First Canada, a charity educating Indigenous youth in Water Science. CPSS Interact continues to advocate for Indigenous Peoples’ basic rights to this day.
